Earlier this month, Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) announced that three of its new 2017 Mazda models had once again earned the honor of being named 2017 Top Safety Pick+ awardees from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The 2017 Mazda CX-3 subcompact crossover, 2017 Mazda3 compact sedan, and the midsize 2017 Mazda6 family sedan all aced the IIHS’s tests and earned the coveted honor of being named a 2017 Top Safety Pick+ designee. At Lester Glenn Mazda, we’re proud to be associated with a brand that cares so much about the safety of its drivers!
In order to be named a Top Safety Pick+ designee, a vehicle must earn the top score of “Good” in all five of its crash tests: small-overlap frontal-offset, moderate-overlap frontal-offset, side impact, rear crash performance, and roof strength tests. The vehicle must also earn the score the “Advanced” or “Superior” rating in the IIHS’s front crash-prevention and crash avoidance systems. The IIHS recognized the Mazda models for their available Smart City Brake Support and Smart Brake Support automatic emergency braking systems as well as their adaptive LED headlights and the ultra-rigid SKYACTIV®-Chassis technology. Robert Davis, senior VP, U.S. Operations, MNAO, had this to say about the honors:
Mazda vehicles are thought of as beautiful with our signature KODO—Soul of Motion design and engaging to drive, but our consistently outstanding performance in safety evaluations also speaks volumes about our engineering excellence, courtesy of SKYACTIV® TECHNOLOGY. The IIHS Top Safety Pick+ distinction becomes tougher and tougher to earn, yet our vehicles continue to prove their mettle with no compromise—whether it’s with safety, outstanding fuel-efficiency or any number of other areas.
