Earlier this month, Mazda Motor Corporation announced information about SKYACTIV® TECHNOLOGY VEHICLE DYNAMICS, a series of new-generation vehicle motion control technologies. The first in a series of new technologies will be G-Vectoring Control, and will be introduced across the Mazda brand’s entire model range, starting in the U.S. with the 2017 Mazda6, which will hit markets later this fall. The SKYACTIV® TECHNOLOGY VEHICLE DYNAMICS suite of technologies will provide integrated control of the engine, transmission, chassis, and body in order to enhance the new Mazda vehicle’s “Jinba Ittai” feel. Jinba Ittai refers to the sense of connectedness between the driver and the vehicle that helps to distinguish new Mazda models from other makes and models.
The first of the new technologies to be introduced is the G-Vectoring Control (GVC). It came from the Mazda brand’s human-centered development philosophy. The GVC introduces the idea that the engine can enhance the chassis performance. According to the Mazda brand, the GVC will be the world’s first control system to:
Vary engine torque in response to steering inputs in order to provide integrated control of lateral and longitudinal acceleration forces and optimize the vertical load on each wheel for smooth and efficient vehicle motion.
By optimizing the load on each tire, the movements of the car will be more in line with the driver’s intentions and will reduce the need for steering corrections, even those that are made unconsciously. The system provides impressive traction that will provide the driver more confidence, which in turn makes driving more enjoyable.
